Dominancia vs Liderazgo.

Los conceptos de ser dominante y ser un líder con el perro se confunden mucho. Todos hemos escuchado de muchas fuentes desde la televisión, veterinarios, hasta etólogos (de donde nace el concepto) que hay que ser el líder de la manada, y para serlo hay que ser el dominante.  Entonces siempre trabajamos para dominar al perro con técnicas como el uso del collar de castigo, dándola jalones rápidos y fuertes para corregirlo y que sepa el animal quién manda; de este modo es importante hacer todo lo posible para que el perro no intente dominarnos.

 

El concepto de liderazgo es muy diferente, ya que lo que se pretende es convertirnos en un líder para de esta forma tener una mejor comunicación. El líder de una manada de perros no es el perro gandaya a quien todos le temen. Cuando hay un perro así, los otros perros prefieren en muchos casos alejarse de él. Un líder es aquel perro que logra mantener una buena comunicación con todos y cada uno de los miembros de la manada. Así nosotros también podemos convertirnos en sus líderes ganando su confianza.

 

Los perros tienen la tendencia a “apagarse” si existe miedo; eso quiere decir que se paralizan y convirtiendo su movimiento lento y temeroso. 

 

La principal idea que se da con el termino dominancia es; dominar al perro con miedo en vez de obtener su respeto, así lo único que tendremos es un perro que posee miedo pero no confianza en nosotros ni en sus mismas acciones

 

  • Edward Thorndike dice en la Ley de Efecto: “...cuando una conexión entre un estímulo y respuesta es recompensado (retroalimentación positiva), la conexión se refuerza y cuando es castigado (retroalimentación negativa), la conexión se debilita.”

 

Como experiencia propia puedo decir que me ha tocado entrenar perros que han tenido la mala suerte de iniciar su vida “educativa” con un collar de castigo y he visto el cambio y agradecimiento al liberarlos del mundo de los castigos que pocas veces entienden por tantos jalones y un mal trato.

 

Ser un líder implica darle al perro estructura, disciplina; lo cual significa ser constante en todo lo que se le pide, sin llegar a un mal trato, cuidando así el bienestar del perro. De este verán que rápido y afectuosamente aprende un perro y al mismo tiempo tendrán una relación que los enriquezca a ambos.

 

 

 

 

Así debemos recordar que; no hay que confundir el respeto con el castigo.
